More Progress — 450 Petitions Signed

    February 12th, 2007

Since that rainy night in January when we formed the Capon Valley Coalition to oppose Allegheny Power’s TrAIL power line, more than 450 persons have signed petitions opposing the high-voltage power line through our communities.

We hope — and given the weather forecast, hope is about all we can do — to present copies to the Hampshire County Commissioners tomorrow. Our meeting with the commissioners could well be postponed. If it is, we will reschedule it, and in the meantime, we have put them on notice that this is a serious matter to residents, property owners and businesses in Hampshire County.

(We are still trying to set up a meeting with the Hardy County Commissioners. We will keep you posted.)

We will also give copies to staff of U.S. Sen. Robert Byrd when we meet with them later this month. Our appointment has been changed at least once, but we are confident we will meet with the senator’s staff. When we get closer to the date, we will publicize it and ask folks to attend, if they are able.

    Mass Mailing Going Out Soon

We are delighted to report that the board of directors of Capon Springs and Farms, the largest employer in the Capon Valley, plans to

put together a bulk mailing to as many guests as possible explaining the power line issue and how it affects Capon Springs and Farms. The letter will direct them to the CVC website, explain how they could help, and find out if there is someone out there, that could do more than what we are already doing, to help.”

Eddie Brill, one of the resorts managers, has been involved with Capon Valley Coalition from the start along with his wife, Ginny, who is a granddaughter the resort’s founder. The Brills and their fellow directors have generously agreed to let the Coalition piggyback on their mailing with one of our own. We are working on that (and will pay our part of the postage).

Thanks to all at Capon Springs and Farms.

We have added a page of tips on what to write for those who get tongue-tied. Read the tips … and get writing.
