Manchin Backs Allegheny Power TrAIL Line (State Journal)
In a piece headlined “Power Line Project Prompts Strong Reactions” The State Journal reported Nov. 1 that Gov. Joe Manchin supports the Allegheny Power TrAIL line.
Here is an excerpt from the news coverage:
Governor’s Position
A Manchin administration spokesman said the governor recognizes the problems associated with the power line, but also that the state can benefit from it. “We recognize the electricity transmission congestion problems and that West Virginia has a role in alleviating them,” wrote press secretary Matt Turner in an e-mail message.
“The governor believes there are benefits for our state” in the construction of this line, he wrote. Beyond increased stability, “There would be more use of West Virginia coal, jobs created in the construction of new transmission lines, as well as the related power company jobs necessarily located in West Virginia.”
Manchin is relying on the PSC to determine the necessity of and the route for the proposed line, Turner wrote.
Meanwhile, Pennsylvania’s governor is fighting every way he knows how. And he has coal jobs to think of, too.

I am outraged that our governor, who is to support the poeple of Wv, has once again sided with big business and dirty coal. Has he not listened to our concerns? Do we the poeple no longer matter?
Jobs. Tourism, in Tucker County, brings in millions of dollars. We are a poor county and depend on this money. From business owners in the county, they have stated that it is not the few jobs that proposals like AP TrAIL and their transmission line provide that keeps our businesses alive for 20 - 25 years. It is tourism and who will want to visit this pristine land after they have marred our land?
Coal: Sounds like our governor has once again been bought by the coal industry.
Coal is dirty and outdated. WV sells this cheap dirty coal and lets the electric power plants disburse it into our air which is ranked 14.9 in the National Ambiant Standards (15 being the highest and poorest). When will our governor stand up to big coal business and work for the WV people and our global community?
I am supportive of our neighboring PA and VA governors who are fighting for its people. Governor Manchin will not receive many votes due to his stance with Allegheny Power and the coal industry. So Be It…………………….

Well said. I pray this will not happen to our living environment.
